I have noticed that everywhere we go, Jonah has a little habit of finding a Jonah-sized toy to carry around in his hand. It doesn't seem to matter what it is, as long as it fits in his little hand. A Duplo, a used up gift card, a Little People person. When we're home, it's usually the duck.
We have a wooden puzzle with several farm animals pieces. Jonah doesn't get the idea of puzzles yet, but he can often be found carrying around the duck piece. I think because it's the smallest? But he prefers it over any of the other animals. As you can see below, it is the most loved piece of all.
He likes to put the duck in things (cup, empty Kleenex box, toy box, etc.) and take it out again. Sometimes he throws the duck and then crawls after it, repeat ad nauseum He likes to bang the duck on his drum or bang it against another puzzle piece. He carries the duck all over our apartment. Most of the time, however, he just holds it in his hand and gnaws on the duck's face. It is just the right size for Jonah's little hand.
No wonder that "duck" was one of Jonah's first words! (Although, when he says it, it sounds more like 'guck').
