It's fun that Jonah can communicate well enough now that we can have conversations. So many fascinating things go through his little mind, and he is not shy about sharing! Navigating public situations with his lack of filter, however, is proving to be interesting. A few situations lately:
- We were at the grocery store recently. When Brandon is able to come to the store with us, he prefers a "divide and conquer" method where he runs for a few items at a time, bringing them back to the cart. He was away from the cart on one such "mission" as we made our way down one aisle. Jonah spied a man standing about half-way down the aisle. Pointing at this man (who looked nothing like Brandon), he screamed, "Daddy!" Um, no. That's not Daddy. As we got closer and Jonah realized it was not Brandon, he continued to point at this man while assuring me, very loudly "Don't be scared. Don't be scared this person." I just smiled awkwardly and continued pushing my cart down the aisle.
- Another shopping trip, this time to Costco. We had finished our shopping and were grabbing a quick lunch at the food court. At the table next to us, a little boy dropped his drink, spilling Sprite and ice all over the floor. "That's a big mess!" Jonah declared. Then, as the boy's father knelt to clean up the mess, Jonah encouraged him, "Wipe it up, wipe it up. Wipe up the big mess!" THEN - he noticed the ice all over the floor, and started in with a chorus of "Ice, ice, baby. Ice, ice, baby."
- And finally, yesterday at the park. There was another little girl, about 18 months, playing on the equipment with her mom. She was a little timid about going down the slides. Her mom would set her at the top, and then encourage her to go down. Jonah, always wanting to be helpful, would stand behind her and cheer her on, "Come on! Come on!" and then clap wildly when she finally went down - "Yay!!!" I'm not sure his help was appreciated by the reluctant slider, but her mom sure got a kick out of it :)
