Thursdays are First Friends days for the girls. This week Jonah and I (and Levi) had some fun of our own while the girls were away. First, Jonah read his way around the new library! He has been begging to come back here ever since our first visit, right after it opened. It's not usually our go-to library, because there's not a lot of non-book stuff - and usually library day means picking out new books AND a little playtime. However, there are lots of cozy places to curl up and read in the children's area, which is just what Jonah did.
Wobble chairs - perfect for our always-moving guy!
Non-traditional wobble-chair posture :P
I literally just followed him around the library as he picked out different books, then sat and read them for a while. It was a perfect way for Jonah to spend this cool, grey morning!
I especially love these little reading nooks built right into the wall!
Somehow, no matter how he starts, Jonah always seems to end up upside down...
Before we left, we had to check out the super high-tech book return. There are half a dozen branches of the Wichita library, and you are allowed to return books to any branch, regardless of where you checked them out. This means, each branch has to sort all the books from their book return, then return them to the correct branch for reshelving. At the new fancy library, this process is all automated! And they even built a glass wall so you can watch the process. When you drop a book into the return slot, it starts its journey on the conveyor belt, where its bar code is scanned so its "home branch" can be identified. From there continues down the belt, and a robot arm automatically comes out to push it into the correct bin. Returning library books has never been so fun!!
After a picnic lunch, we headed across the street to the Exploration Place. Jonah has been eager to check out the "Toytopia"- the new traveling exhibit that opened a few weeks ago. I didn't take any pictures of our time there - but I must say, it's much easier to take two children out rather than four! Especially when one of them is not mobile :) We finished up in time to head back to pick up the girls. A fun day for everyone - except maybe Levi, who only got little cat naps all day. But he's a pretty good sport.
