We're reaching back all the way to June for this post. The final few weeks of residency were crazy-busy for Brandon. Jonah was also finished with school, and I anticipated Esther would be ready to drop her morning nap about this time. So I scheduled activities like crazy to get us out of the house. When the time came, Esther seemed perfectly content to continue napping twice a day....but we had places to be! So I forced her to drop her morning nap, perhaps a little prematurely, but she did great. In the end, I realized all the activities were a bit too much. We were all exhausted by the time the end of the month (and the end of residency!!) rolled around. But we sure had fun exhausting ourselves :) Here's a quick look at what we did while daddy was working 80+ hours a week to cap off his residency training.
Jonah did a three-day camp at The Exploration Place; the theme was "Little Coders". They got to play with robots and do some beginner coding stuff. It took him a little bit to warm up to it, but by the end of three days, he was sad it was over.
I also signed Jonah up for a ninja gymnastics class once a week. It ran all summer, finishing up today! A friend from his PreK class was also in the class. This class involved lots of running, jumping, flipping, and climbing over and under obstacles - perfect for Jonah. Every week when I pick him up, he is drenched in sweat and exhausted. The week he had his coding camp in the morning, and gymnastics right after, he was totally wiped out - and threw up later that day. May have over done it. He did another three-day camp the first week in August, this time the theme was Dinosaurs. And the day he had camp and gymnastics back to back - he threw up again. Oops :/
The girls and I explored some different parks and ran errands while Jonah had his camp and gymnastics.
The big kids also did two weeks of swim lessons in June. Jonah made a ton of progress, moving up to level three and almost up to level four. Cora finally mastered "bubble bobbing" (blowing bubbles while bobbing up and down in the water) and got to graduate past level one - something she was unable to do in 2 two-week sessions last summer. She also does a pretty great back float.
Esther was a champ on the side of the pool, every morning for two weeks.
We did have some unscheduled time in June. Jonah tried to teach Cora how to play chess. This was entertaining for a brief moment before they both became frustrated.
I enlisted the kids' help with chores, and they were mostly compliant, and even helpful at times!
We also spent A LOT of time outside, enjoying the "cooler" part of summer in Kansas, before it gets really hot.
Someone got into the fire pit and was COVERED head-to-toe in ash. This child can find a mess anywhere.
A couple other fun outings we had in June included a trip to the nature center
Whew! Thankfully, our summer slowed down a bit after that.
