Wolf is seven!

Jonah has become more interested in math/numbers recently. He likes to ask us simple addition and subtraction problems, "What is nine plus five?" Fourteen! And he will do simple problems by counting on his fingers. "Ten minus six is....four! Hey, I'm ten minus six!" :) Brandon has also started to introduce basic algebra - solving for the unknown. Jonah likes to use animals, so he'll say, "Turtle is four -- so.....what's 'turtle' plus two?" Six!

The other night at dinner, we turned it around on him, and Brandon asked Jonah, "Three plus 'wolf' equals ten. What is 'wolf?" Jonah immediately started to whine, "I don't know!!!" (He can be a bit dramatic). But Brandon told him to see if he could figure it out using his abacus. He disappeared into the toy room, and we continued to eat our dinner. Honestly, I figured he got distracted by something and forgot about why he went in the toy room in the first place.

Three or four minutes later, Jonah appeared suddenly in the doorway of the kitchen, arms raised victoriously over his head, and screamed, "WOLF IS SEVEN!!" And pumped his fists in the air, jumping up and down.

It. was. awesome.

Easily one of my favorite parenting moments so far.
This kid. We have had some difficult moments over the past year.
But he is pretty amazing.
