Last week, the kids and I got to visit some old friends in Oklahoma. Chris and Lisa moved to Iowa City about the same time we did, so that Chris could attend dental school (and hunt deer). After Chris finished school, they moved to Dallas for a residency program. We were sad to see them go! Iowa City is a transient place, and we had to say good-bye to many good friends over the years. (And then, this summer, it was our turn to leave!)
Shortly after we moved to Wichita, Chris and Lisa moved back to Oklahoma. When I found out they were only a few hours away, we started planning a visit! Brandon wasn't able to join us, but the kids and I got to spend a few days there. It was a nice little change of pace, and so wonderful to catch up with old friends.
The drive down was gorgeous! Northern Oklahoma is beautiful. We actually saw a lot of fall color and rolling, tree-covered hills. Who knew? Chris and Lisa have two kids - Gage is five months older than Jonah, and Eden is three months older than Cora. The kids had a blast.
This weird, sudden cold snap we've been experiencing kept us mostly indoors, but we had a good time anyway. We spent the morning at the library, which had a really nice play area with tons of toys, books (duh!), and even a play kitchen.
Jonah wasted no time locating a computer and getting right to work.
That's the extent of the pictures I took. But after the library, we picked up some lunch, and met Chris at his office. He is just getting his practice set up after completing his residency at the end of September - it's a lot of work! But they are both glad to be back in Oklahoma and close to family.
Back at home, we managed to find four separate places for kids to nap, and Lisa and I enjoyed a little downtime while all the kids slept. It's nice to have kids on (roughly) the same schedule - although her kids did not wake up at 5:15.
It was a quick trip, and then we were back on the road to Wichita. The kids were excited to see Brandon after a few days away! And I am excited that he has finished up his first month of in-patient adult medicine. It was a super-busy month....and we get to do it again in December! But first, we get to enjoy a few weeks of a much lighter rotation, with some much needed time off.
