We started off Halloween week with a playgroup visit to an assisted living facility for some "reverse trick-or-treating" - the kids dressed up and handed out candy to the residents. It was pretty fun! We had quite a crowd of little ones. Here's the best shot I got:
On Friday night, we were invited to join some friends at a Fall Festival/Carnival at a nearby church. But first, we made a stop by the hospital to visit Daddy on his last night of night float and show off our costumes.
Jonah was pretty pumped to put on his costume. He and Cora went as Mickey and Minnie :)
Grandma came up with the costumes and made some pretty cute hats for the kids. Jonah LOVES his; Cora is not a fan of hats, generally, and I had a hard time getting her to keep it on.
The carnival was pretty fun. They had lots of games for the kids, a bounce house, a box maze, lots of snacks, and a pumpkin decorating contest. It was a bit overwhelming - and a bit past bedtime - but I think they kids enjoyed it. They also had a little puppet show, which I thought the kids would enjoy. Before it started, a lady talked with the kids a little and played a clapping game with them. Jonah was totally into it. Then the puppet show started....and Jonah started shrieking hysterically! For some reason, he was TERRIFIED of the puppets. He latched onto me and wouldn't even look at them again. He didn't stop shaking until we left the room. Very strange and out of character - I've never seen him act like that before.
Saturday was my birthday! It was a pretty low key day, since Brandon was recovering from his week of night float, and the kids had been staying up late all week (my attempt to ease them into the end of Daylight Saving Time). But Brandon did make me my traditional birthday cake :) This year, he made Double Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcakes, which included a layer of chocolate peanut butter ganache AND chocolate peanut butter frosting on top. Yum!
Mostly the kids are still at that age where their moms can dress the siblings up in coordinating costumes. Some pairs included: the princess and the frog, Elsa and Olaf (obviously), 50's sock-hop poodle skirts with a baby sister poodle, an envelope and postage stamp, a butterfly and a ladybug. It was pretty chaotic, but also a lot of fun!
