Cora is two months old today!
We went to the doctor this morning, so we'll start with some official stats for our little girl:
Weight: 11lbs, 6.5oz (~50th percentile)
Height: 22.5" (~50th percentile)
Smaller than Jonah at two months :) She is our dainty lady. She is wearing size 1 diapers and mostly 3 month or 3-6 month clothing.
At two months, Cora is our laid-back, go-with-the-flow, loves-to-smile baby. She seriously loves to smile and interact - and she still saves her best smiles for Dad! Although the little bug/mirror thing on her activity mat comes in a close second. Cora has discovered her hands, and spends her waking hours batting at toys or trying to get her fist up to her mouth. Our swaddling days may be limited, as pinning her arms down is starting to cause some frustration.
Sleep: Every mom's favorite topic :) Cora is starting to settle into a bit of a rhythm - which is so different from Jonah's "schedule" at this age. His days were fairly cyclical, with his sleep pretty evenly distributed: he took several one hour naps...until he took three 90 minute naps....until he took two 2-hour naps...until he took one 3-hour nap (although these days, it's usually more like 2 hours). Cora will typically take a short nap in the morning, 30 minutes to an hour, and then one long nap in the middle of the day - sometimes up to three and half hours! And usually another short nap or two in the afternoon/evening. She also falls asleep easily in her car seat if we're out and about, and then transfers nicely to her crib to finish sleeping once we get home (something I could never get Jonah to do). She sleeps from about 7:30pm to 7:30am, waking once or (more often) twice to eat. It is so nice the second time around to have the perspective to realize that these short, interrupted nights and erratic, unpredictable days only feel like they will last forever :)
Hemangioma update: Still growing! Jonah calls it her "Hey, man - Jonah!" The doctor confirmed that it will continue to grow throughout her first year, then gradually fade away. She has another tiny one on her toe.
Comparison: It is probably not wise to compare my children...but I can't help it! No judgment about better or worse, I just find it interesting to see how they are similar and different. By around two months, Jonah had quite a bit of traveling under his belt: he made trips to McGregor, St. Louis, Des Moines and Denver. Cora has not traveled further than the east side of Iowa City! My January baby has also spent significantly more hours of her life indoors during this especially frigid and snowy Iowa winter. I hear we may hit 50 next week, though, so a park visit may be on our horizon. Bottles: Cora takes them like a champ, like it's nothing at all; Jonah (I now understand) was terrible with the bottle. It used to stress Brandon out to no end to have to give Jonah a bottle...and now I see why. And lastly - Cora is a girl! I know this sounds obvious...but even as a baby she is so much more girly than Jonah. She lets out dramatic, frantic squeals when she is hungry and has to wait; she will cry and fuss when trying to fall asleep...but when you walk in the room, it's all smiles and grins; whereas Jonah was all spastic, constant motion, Cora's movements have more fluidity and she just looks more dainty. Having a girl is so fun :)
Here's a comparison shot of the two kids at two months. It's funny, because when I look at Cora (in person), I see so much of Jonah as a baby...but when you put them up next to each other - they don't really look all that similar! Different face shape, different coloring, different mouth, different hairline.

Okay, that "Hey Man, Jonah" was a laugh out loud, I-have-to-share-this-with-Jonathon moment. Cora is a cutie and it looks like she and Gretel are very close to the same size! They need to meet!
