Sure, why not!

Improptu camping trip??  Sure - why not!

Who says you can't be spontaneous with a four-month old?

The set-up:  Brandon was away Friday night for a retreat with his grad school program.  On Saturday morning, Jonah took a rock star 3-hour nap, and he was ready to party by the time Brandon got home Saturday afternoon.  Also, we've been having an extremely hot summer (like most of the country) - but Saturday was absolutely gorgeous.

Brandon walked in the door around three o'clock Saturday afternoon and threw out a proposition: Let's go camping!  We scrambled around assembling what we thought might be necessary to take a 4-month old camping, and we were on our way!  Since this trip was unplanned, we didn't have a reservation at the camp site - but we lucked out and there was one available.  We quickly set up camp, and then took a walk to enjoy the cool evening.  It was perfectly wonderful!

Jonah seemed to enjoy all the new sights and sounds associated with being in the woods.  It's fun to watch him take in the world around him.  He is so curious...and wants to put everything in his mouth!

After Jonah was safely asleep in the tent, Brandon and I enjoyed the quiet of the night together.  It was a little bit of a bummer because we're under a burn ban and therefore could not have a fire.  But we enjoyed each other's company, nonetheless - no TV (no Olympics!), no computers, no headphones.  We were hoping to catch a meteor shower Brandon heard was supposed to be visible last night.  But our campsite had pretty good tree cover obscuring the sky, plus it was pretty cloudy.  We still managed to have a good time, even without the meteor shower.

I'd say it was a success!

We all survived til morning...and managed to get a little sleep, too :)
