When we lived in Iowa City, Brandon and I enjoyed attending the U of I gymnastics meets. Iowa does not tend to attract the biggest names in gymnastics, but we still had fun attending the meets. Wichita lacks a big college with a gymnastics team, so we haven't been to any meets since moving here. But it occurred to me that we are not that far from the University of Oklahoma - which happens to be home of the reigning NCAA championship team AND last year's individual "all around" champion! So, for Christmas, Brandon got tickets for us to attend one of their meets this season. Originally, we planned to make it an overnight getaway, without kids. But, we had some trouble finding someone to stay with the kids for the weekend we picked (plus Levi is not quite as ready to be away from Mom as I assumed he might be). So Brandon graciously gave up his ticket to Cora, and we made it a quick down-and-back trip. She and I were able to enjoy a little "Mommy and Me" trip to Oklahoma on Friday while Brandon stayed home with Esther and the boys. It was a blast! Quite a bit bigger production than they Iowa meets.
Oklahoma was hosting the University of Alabama. We had great seats - right in the middle, just a few rows up from the floor. Cora did great for the first 30 minutes, then she got a little restless. She had a hard time knowing where to look, and it was very loud. We spent quite a bit of time walking up and down the stairs, making trips to the concession area and the bathrooms. We stayed at the top of the arena for the last rotation, so that we could make one last potty stop and get back on the road quickly after the meet ended. Cora was getting quite loopy - it was a late night for her! We were home and in bed by midnight. ....Then Levi woke me up at 3:50! I think he just wanted to make sure we were hanging out at exactly the moment he turned one (4:47 on Saturday morning!). I was exhausted the next day, but it was totally worth. Such a fun experience with my little gymnast.
