Summer Fun

With summertime usually comes a slow down of our regular schedule of activities, but we have managed to stay pretty busy these past few weeks (even though it's not even Summer yet....although, you wouldn't be able to tell here in Wichita: we just got through three days of triple-digit temps!). Here's a sampling of what we've been up to!

Pool Time! The Stephen's pool is open for the season! Brandon got home from work a little early one evening, so we headed up the street for our first swim of the season in our favorite "neighborhood pool" :) I forgot to pack Esther's suit...so we just watched from the side this time.

S'mores. Another evening last week, we pulled out the fire pit and cooked up some s'mores after dinner. The bugs have not gotten too bad yet, so it was a nice (hot!) evening outside, and the kids enjoyed this special treat.

Dino dig. I am thankful for creative mom-friends who share their fun ideas on Facebook :) Totally not my idea....but I threw a bunch of dinosaurs in a bowl, filled it up with water and froze overnight. Then I let the kids "dig" out the dinos with plastic knives, hot water, spray bottles and whatever else they could find. A fun way to cool down on a hot afternoon :) All dinos were rescued from their icy entrapment.

Saturday morning fun. This morning, we started our fun at the library picking up some new books, and then we headed to the bowling alley! My friend told me about a fun program called "Kids Bowl Free" - you can sign up your kids, and they can bowl 2 free games every day, all summer long! (Well, you have to pay shoe rental, so it's not entirely free.) There are bowling alley's all over the country participating in this program, so check your state! Anyway, we realized the bowling alley wouldn't be open when we got there, so we made a pit stop at Chick-fil-a for a play break and a little ice cream treat.

Then we were off to bowl! The kids had a good time, but I think Cora, especially, had a hard time waiting for her turn to come around again each frame. But I think it's something we'll do again - a fun escape from the heat on these hot summer days.
