Sedgwick County Zoo

One of the neat things about living in a bigger city is all the fun things available to do!  I've started a "Wichita bucket list" of all the fun things we can try while we're here.  (In all our free time, right Thompsons ;) One of the first things we checked out in town was the Sedgwick County Zoo. I can tell this is something we will be doing often. We were there for two hours and didn't even make it through half of the exhibits! Plus, after a morning at the zoo, Jonah took a 3.5 hour nap :)

The petting zoo was a big hit with Jonah. But Cora enjoyed the giraffe exhibit the most (haha!). She was a trooper the whole time we were there. She squawked along with the peacock and was overall excited to be outside, I think.

Bibi and Babu were in town helping us get settled into our new house (HUGE thank you for all the work they did getting things put together, and for driving 14 hours from Michigan to come see us!!), so they got to join us at the zoo. We had to let them have some fun while they were here ;)

We were at the giraffe exhibit at just the right time, and the kids got to feed the giraffes some pieces of lettuce. Jonah was a little timid (but still talks about it days later!), and Cora wasn't quite sure what to think.

Checking out the monkeys. There was a little sign by this pane explaining that they are aware the glass is cracking and new pane has been ordered, and also that the glass is very strong, and not to be worried about the large crack - Ha!

We also got to check out the Children's Garden at the Botanica flower gardens this week. Really neat place! Sort of a little outdoor children's museum, mixed with nature, surrounded by lots of beautiful foliage. Babu was busy working on my "list" and Brandon had already started his orientation for residency, so Bibi and and I ventured out on our own with the kids. This is probably another place we'll be checking out again.

We had to say good-bye to Bibi and Babu yesterday as they made their way back to Michigan. Glad they could come and see our new house - and help make it feel a little more like home. They left late-morning, and Brandon had a short orientation day yesterday, so today was my first time on my own with the two kids in over a month! We got off to a rough start. Two nights ago, Cora had a terrible time sleeping - I think I fed her 12 times in between 5pm and 6:30am. And her longest stretch of sleep was before I even made it to bed! Then Jonah woke himself up falling out of bed around 4am and never did go back to sleep. All this the night before Bibi and Babu left for Michigan. Bad timing for me to be losing my helping hands! At least I got a nap in before they had to leave yesterday morning. Then last night, Cora had another rough night, so I was going on day number two with very little sleep - but we made it through the day in one piece. Thank goodness it's the weekend. Brandon is off Monday next week, so hopefully we can push through this "three day weekend" and get the last few things checked off our "move in" list and feel finally settled before Brandon starts residency in July. It has been a long time of transition, and it feels great to finally have arrived.
