After seven weeks of in-patient service, we are loving Brandon's three weeks of clinic as his finishes up his peds rotation! Well, minus the first week, which was an out-of-town clinic where we didn't see him for five days. Best part about a clinic schedule: no thirteen hour days, no call and no weekend hours! And this weekend gave us fantastic weather to enjoy our time together.
We also had some visitors this weekend! Bibi and Babu made the drive over from Michigan. They tell us they drove through falling snow, with inches already accumulated on the ground. But it was sunny and mid-50's when they arrived in Iowa Friday afternoon. Iowa FTW!
We spent a chilly/windy Saturday morning at a local pumpkin patch. Jonah got to ride a wagon out to the pumpkin patch where we picked out a pumpkin to take home with us. I have never picked a pumpkin from a patch before. Who knew they didn't just come from the store! The pumpkin patch also had a corn pool where Babu and Daddy tried to bury Jonah in the corn. (He was not a fan). Jonah also enjoyed digging in the corn with all kinds of shovels and buckets and dump trucks. We ended up smuggling about a bushel of corn home in Jonah's diaper. I wonder how many times per season they have to refill the corn pool. After all the excitement of the morning, Jonah came home and crashed for his nap while Brandon took our visitors to enjoy the tail end of the last Saturday Farmer's Market of the season. A sure sign that Fall is definitely here. They brought home some yummy treats to share, and after a quick lunch, everyone above and below the age of 29 enjoyed a nap :)
After naps, Jonah helped Babu de-gut the pumpkin. He enjoyed squishing the pumpkin's innards as Babu scooped them out, and then Daddy tasked him with picking out the seeds for roasting. Jonah is a quick learner and did very well finding and picking out the seeds.
Sunday morning, it was time for our guests to make the trip home to Michigan. We enjoyed a lovely breakfast together and a walk down by the river in the beautiful morning sunshine before it was time for them to load up the car and head home. Just a few short weeks until it's our turn to make the drive, and we'll see them again - in Michigan, this time! Thanks for making the drive, Bibi and Babu!
After a nap for Jonah, we headed downtown to enjoy more of the beautiful day. There was a "costume run" in Iowa City. It was sort of hilarious - a 2k run, that took the majority of runners about 10-15 minutes to complete. There were some interesting costumes. My favorite were the kids. As they neared the finish, they looked so serious as they really turned it on for a strong finish.
Jonah enjoyed clapping for the runners as they approached the finish. It was a small race, and over pretty quickly. We decided to walk around downtown and enjoy the afternoon sunshine. We walked over to the ped mall playground. Jonah and Daddy had a good time climbing around on the equipment and trying to avoid thebullies older kids also running around.
We also started our "Daylight Savings Time" preparation by keeping Jonah up a bit later. Now, if only that meant that he slept in later... He'll adjust eventually, right??
