7 months

Month 7 has been an exciting one for Jonah.  We started out the month in the middle of our vacation to beautiful North Carolina - and rounded things out with a few big growth and developmental milestones!

Here's a few details.  At seven months, Jonah...

 - Is still in size 3 diapers and wearing mostly size 12 month.  I estimate he weighs just under 19 lbs.
 - Diggin' solid foods.  His two favorites are egg yolks and liver mixed with avocado.  Seriously gross - but he loves it!  All that iron is supposed to be good for the developing brain.  Other favorites include sweet potatoes and bananas.
 - Has two teeth!  One popped through last weekend, and I noticed a second one this morning.
 - Is still rockin' dark brown eyes and blonde hair.
 - Is on the move.  He rolls all around the room, sort of randomly most of the time, but he can really get around.  Recently he has also started scooting himself around on his belly.  When he sees something he wants, he gets really intense and gets after it.  It usually involves lots of grunting.  He's like a little inchworm.  He also gets up on all fours and rocks, and will occasionally push onto his fingers and toes like he's going to bear-crawl.  Within the last week he has started trying to get down onto his belly from a sitting position.  It seems like it won't be long before he's all-out crawling.
 - Likes to pretend he can blow raspberries.  It's more like humming-while-spitting.

 - Loves to stand.  If you offer your fingers when he's sitting - he will gladly pull himself up to his feet (and look awfully proud of what he just did).  So far he has not attempted to pull himself up on anything else.  It may be time to think about lowering the crib, though.
 - Really loves peek-a-boo.  It is especially fun to play with Dad whenever we leave the house.  Dad runs ahead on the stairs and jumps out behind every corner.  It's fun to watch Jonah lean forward to try and peer around the corner when Brandon disappears ahead of us.  Even more fun when Dad reappears.  Giggles every time.
 - Still dials into the TV any time it's on.  So colorful!  And shiny!  And a constant stream of noise!  He has started to shove with his hands if you try to block his view.  Funny, but not so funny.  Good thing we don't watch a lot of TV.

Right now, Jonah LOVES:
 - Nylon straps of any kind --> high chair, shopping cart, car seat, stroller, ergo carrier (kids get strapped into a lot of places!), Dad's backpack, Dad's helmet.  Endlessly fascinating...and goes straight into the mouth.
 - Strings or cords, including: ear buds, power cords, fuzz on the carpet, fringe on the pillow, drawstrings on a hoodie, drawstrings on pants, tiny yarn ties on a quilt.  Endlessly fascinating...and goes straight into the mouth.
 - Saying 'mama' and 'dada' - we're loving this, too!
 - Anything black.  Who's kid is this, anyway?  All the black things also happen to belong to Brandon...so maybe it's anything he sees Dad "play" with.

These days, just about the only thing he can't stand?  Having his nose touched (think: bath time, post-meal face scrubbing, kleenex to snotty nose, or the worst - the dreaded bulb sucker).  Random.  But he totally flips out.  His hands get swinging, and he tries to bat my hands away.  I hope cold season is kind to us.

At six months, I said Jonah was busy.  That continues to be true.  At seven months, I would add that Jonah is also intense.  He does not get upset very often, but when he does it's a fast crescendo, accompanied by balled fists and scrunched face.  He creeps/scoots across the floor with purpose.  When we lay him down for bed or naps, he scoots and creeps around the crib until he collapses into sleep.  In fact, the more tired he is, the more intense/frantic he gets.

I told him all about winter in the Midwest, and he CAN NOT wait!  So excited.
