Bedroom switcheroo

A while back, my dad forwarded me an email from one of his colleagues offering up a set of bunk beds -- for free!! We had actually been talking about getting bunk beds for the kids, so I told my dad we were interested.  I'm not sure my dad had totally thought this through before sharing the offer with us...they had to go pick up the bed, then they had to store the frame and mattresses in their living room.  Then, we had to figure out how to get them to Wichita. My parents ended up renting a trailer and driving down and back in one day! They stayed just long enough to help me put the beds together, and then spend a little time with the kids. A labor of love, for sure. I guess "free" is a relative term ;)

To accommodate the bunk beds, we switched around the sleeping arrangements. Prior to the new beds, Jonah and Cora each had a twin bed in the smaller bedroom, and Esther's nursery doubled as a guest room, with a crib and a queen bed in the larger bedroom. We swapped out the queen for the bunk beds, and moved Esther's crib the smaller bedroom. There's also a twin in each room, now -- and we gifted the queen to some friends who are getting married next month. Whew!

The kids are loving their new bunk beds. And it's actually been working out great - Cora's a bit more insulated tucked down in the bottom bunk, so Jonah is able to get up in the morning without disturbing her. More sleep for everyone!! It took Esther a week or so to adjust to the new arrangement. She was a bit thrown off by the changes, but now she's doing great.
