1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

Our library is participating in the "1,000 Books Before Kindergarten" program to encourage parents to read with their kids before they get to Kindergarten. We picked up our pages of 100 circles - each time we read a book together, the kids colored in a circle. Then, when we completed a full page, we brought it back to the library and traded it in for a sticker to put on the "bookshelf" wall. We already do a lot of reading at our house, but I have to admit, this program did help encourage me to read more with Esther. She is much less vocal about being read to than the other two. But we enjoyed lots of snuggles reading our way to 1,000 books.

The kids were the first ones at our branch to reach the 1,000 book level! For their final prize, they each will receive a t-shirt and their own *gold* library card! (Which is actually a pretty sweet deal....a gold library card gets you free, unlimited hold requests - which are usually 25 cents a piece - plus three-day forgiveness of fines for overdue books! Usually, the only way to get one is to make a donation to the Friends of the Wichita Public Library.)

Before they added their stickers to the top shelf!
