This past weekend was the family med residency's annual retreat/bike trip in Colorado!!
.....except that only first and second year residents actually get to go to Colorado, and the third years are left behind in Kansas to cover all the inpatient shifts in adult medicine, pediatrics and OB. Not quite as exciting, but I guess we are paying our dues for the past two years.
Most of the residents ended up working a 24+ hour shift, plus another 12-14 hour shift during the weekend. There is a husband/wife pair of residents in Brandon's class, and they worked the OB floor Friday morning through Saturday morning, then posted this adorable picture on Facebook, with the following caption (Amy was my OB, and the doctor who delivered Esther!):
We survived!! John and I ran the L&D floor for the past 24 hours! Nine beautiful babies were born on our watch, and our marriage is still intact 
😊 What fun it is to do something you love with the one you love the most 
❤️! We couldn't have done it without all the amazing L&D staff!
Then Brandon and his friend Mike took over the OB floor Saturday morning for their 24 hour shift (that ended up being about 28 hours!). It was a pretty hectic shift. Sunday morning, Mike posted this picture and caption to his Facebook page - Haha!
On Monday morning, Brandon was able to come along on Jonah's field trip to the zoo! Then he got a little nap in Monday afternoon before going back in to work a 13-hour shift Monday night. He was supposed to work with another resident, Sam - but Sam's wife had a baby on Monday! So he ended up working with Mike again! Then, Tuesday morning, he and Mike flew to Florida for five days to attend a conference/training. Hopefully their friendship is still intact after this week :)
We are excited for Brandon to get home this weekend - we haven't seen much of him since last Friday!

We died. Alleman and I ran the L&D floor for the past 24 hours. Twelve babies, 6 burritos and 2 omelets later our friendship is still intact.
