morning conversations

It is fascinating the way the mind works. I love how language develops in kids, and it is fun to watch my kids as they learn to express themselves. Two interesting conversations from our morning:

From a two-year-old:

Cora: {cough, cough}
Me: Oh no, Cora! Where did that cough come from?
Cora: ....my mouth.  [duh, Mom]

From an almost-four-year-old:

Jonah woke up singing the hymn, "Solid Rock". Throughout the morning, he continued singing parts of it, including during breakfast:

Jonah: ....on Christ, the solid rock, I stand, all other ground is sinking sand. ...That part is about Jesus being born!
Me: [???]  Well, you're right, this song is about Jesus. But it's talking about what we base our lives on...if we base our lives on Christ, we have a solid foundation, but if we build our lives around something else, something less stable, it's like building on sand.
Jonah: [blank stares]
Me:  ....You know, this metaphor is a little deep for a three-year-old.

A few minutes later...
Jonah: [singing a different song now] ...The wise man built his house upon the rock, the wise man built his house upon the rock...
Me: [Light bulb!] Because the wise men were there when Jesus was born!!
Jonah: [duh, Mom]
Me: Different wise men....but interesting connection :)
