I LOVE this age. What a delightful, sometimes sassy, mostly goofy, babbling, toddling, silly, playful, wonderful age. Cora is 15 months (and a few weeks) old. There are so many fun things about Cora at this age, I wanted to try and record some of them.
She occasionally will belly laugh (like when you really startle her or daddy tickles her armpits), but mostly she laughs on the inhale and sounds like a pterodactyl. Or she shrieks. She has recently discovered her belly button and is constantly picking at it. She can point to and name many body parts. Cora has been saying mama for a while, but in the last week she has started to call for me with a very loud, very clear Mama! Mama! Mama! - from her crib, if I leave the room, when she wants my attention, etc.
She is our busy girl, and she loves to be outside! If you say the word outside or go or let's go... or even shoes, she's off. She'll bring me her shoes (and then my shoes and then Jonah's shoes), then drag me over to the door. Thank goodness for beautiful spring weather in Kansas - we've been able to get outside so much lately. Cora likes to ride her trike and color with chalk, and she's always up for baba (bubbles).
Cora seems to get dirty every time we go outside. She likes to splash in puddles and dig in the dirt, often plopping right down in the middle of it. She doesn't seem to mind getting her hands (and her clothes!) dirty - and I'm working on just letting it happen. Who knew my girl would be my dirty child :)
Cora loves to be helpful! She takes dirty diapers to the diaper pail and trash to the garbage can, helps unload the dishwasher, puts her shoes away when we come inside, puts her clothes in the hamper, loves to pick up toys, and if she can get her hands on a wipe, she will wipe down any and every surface :) She also loves to rock her babies and swaddle them with blankets and even read them stories.
She has crazy fine motor skills, and she's super into details. When she gets engaged in something with lots of pieces, Cora will stay busy for a long time working on putting in, fitting together, stacking, sorting, dumping, etc.
Jonah and Cora are definitely working on the art of sharing and playing together. Some days more successfully than others. But they also really enjoy being with each other and doing things together. Cora wants to do everything big brother does, which is great when Jonah is making good choices :) She even follows us into the bathroom every time Jonah has to go potty. I got the little potty chair out from the closet, and Cora will sit on it while Jonah does his thing. I even had her sit on it without a diaper one time, and she accidentally peed in it!
We are certainly enjoying this stage with Cora.
Some numbers:
- Wearing mostly 18 month clothing, size 4 shoes and size 4 diapers
- Weighs about 21 lbs.
- Twelve teeth
- Goes to bed around 7:30, wakes around 6:00 (she might go to bed a little earlier and sleep a little later if she was in her own room...but for now they both seem to be doing well with this arrangement, and we like having them in the same room)
- Two naps per day, although there's a huge variety in length. Some of this is due to various morning commitments away from home that make it hard to have her down at a consistent time. But on a good day, she'll nap about 90 minutes to 2 hours for each nap. She is actually pretty flexible about her naps, but I don't think she's quite ready to drop the morning nap completely.
