Fish Movie

Brandon has been taking Jonah swimming at the rec center in town every Sunday afternoon for the past month, or so. This is great because it gets Jonah out of the house, it's something fun for Jonah and Brandon to do together, and Jonah LOVES the water. It's to the point where Brandon pulls out the bag he uses to carry their towels and things, and Jonah knows just where they are heading. He calls it the "fimming pool" - apparently "sw" is a difficult sound for a toddler. We eat "feet" potatoes around here, too :)

Last weekend, the rec center had a special swimming time where they opened up the pool and you were allowed to bring floaties and toys....and they had a huge screen showing Finding Nemo! Jonah hasn't seen a lot of movies, but we have put on "The Fish Movie" both times I've given him a haircut, so he is familiar with Finding Nemo. We figured it was a good first "big screen" movie experience for Jonah because it did not require him to sit still in a dark theater for an extended period of time. The only bummer was that the movie started at 7pm...and Jonah's usually in bed by 7:30. Thankfully, Jonah doesn't get super cranky when he's tired - he just gets crazy-hyper.

The rec center provided leis for the kids (?), and there was a little bit of time to swim around before they fired up the movie. We got Jonah a set of "puddle jumpers", which he tested out for the first time. He doesn't quite have the hang of it, but it helped to buoy him a little bit.  The boys did the swimming, while Cora and I stayed (mostly) dry and enjoyed the movie from the pool deck.

This actually worked out pretty well, because when Jonah's attention for the movie waned, they could swim around a bit. And after a while, he could take a swim break to watch the movie a bit more. Perfect set-up for our super-active little swimmer - especially because he was getting more tired/hyper as the night wore on.

Cora didn't last too long...
Jonah has been enjoying swimming with Brandon so much, I started to have visions of my summer: taking the kids to the pool, lounging in the sun while Cora splashes in the water and Jonah swims around....

Let's just say, Brandon was so exhausted just trying to keep Jonah's head above water (and I was exhausted just watching them!), I'm not sure I will brave the pool on my own for a long while. At least until Jonah gets a little better at keeping himself afloat. Jonah has NO fear and was continually flinging himself from Brandon's arms into the water. We finally dragged him from the water about halfway through the movie. I think he would have stayed all night.

Happy, tired, COLD boy!

Funny story... At one point, Jonah took a break from swimming to warm up a bit. We wrapped him in a towel and he watched a bit of the movie on my lap....and then he PEED on me! Thanks, Jonah!!
