Downton Abbey
First of all, the long wait is almost over....season three of Downton Abbey starts tomorrow! When last we saw Matthew and Mary, it was Christmas time at Downton and they were happily spinning in the snow, celebrating their much-delayed, much-anticipated engagement! Can't wait to see what happens in season three.
The bummer about starting up a series that has already begun, but has not yet concluded, is that you become accustomed to watching several episodes in one sitting. But when you catch up to the newest episodes, you have to wait a whole week in between episodes. Tomorrow's two-hour season premiere starts at 8pm! (At night!). (!). That's getting a bit late for our early-to-bed, early-to-rise household...but I'm sure we'll power through.
Date night :)
Brandon and I had a lovely dinner last night at Monica's on the Coralville strip. They are seriously hardcore about catering to their non-gluten-consuming customers. Which is great, because Brandon is back on the Paleo-wagon. I had the "Champagne Salad" - and it was delicious! So many different kinds of fruit: mangoes, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, pears, grapes, and dried cranberries - all on a bed of spring greens, topped with candied walnuts and a house-made champagne dressing. Yum! But it was almost too much sugar - even I had to decline dessert after all that. And - when it came time for the check, the tip and the total were palindromes! Much to Brandon's delight.

That's the grade I'd give Jonah's naps this past week. Our typically stellar napper has been taking these wussy little 45 minute naps ever since we got home. I think he's a little out of sorts from all our travels. Here's hoping things return to normal soon. For all of our sake.
Daylight Donuts
Today is the first Saturday of the month, and that means donuts! We have a little tradition of going out for donuts on the first Saturday of each month. However, now that Brandon's back to his Paleo ways (for real), he just gets to sit and watch me eat a donut. What a trooper.
Daddy
And finally...
Des Moines
Shout out to Grandma and Grandpa Strutt. We spent a little time in Des Moines just before the New Year to round out our Christmas break. We saw The Hobbit in theaters, played lots of games and spent lots of time relaxing. Perfect ending to all of our travels.

The non-donut-eating side of the booth
Jonah is a big fan of his daddy. All day long, all I hear is "dadada" - it's his favorite thing to say! When Brandon gets home from work, Jonah lights up with excitement, squealing and smiling and flapping all his limbs. Daddy knows all the best games to make Jonah bust up with laughter. And when Jonah's upset, Daddy's singing has an almost instantaneous calming affect on him.
