Something Familiar (Agra trip, part 4)

Our hotel room in Agra had a television with almost 100 different channels. Most of the channels seemed to be crazy Bollywood-style music videos, news/speeches in Hindi, American shows and movies dubbed into Hindi, and cricket. However, there were a handful of channels actually in English – including ESPN and a channel that seemed to pull most of it's programing from ABC Family. Brandon was delighted to discover that each morning, ESPN showed live MLB baseball games from the states (because at that time of the morning, it was still the previous night in the US) – usually the Yankees or the Red Sox. It wasn't quite as cool as if it had been the Tigers, but since he's been out of the country for the entire season so far, these were the first live games he's seen.

Another crazy thing happened one afternoon while we were hiding in our hotel room, attempting to escape the extreme temps outside. The show America's Funniest Home Videos came on, and since it was in English, it seemed more interesting than anything else. Some of the clips started to seem familiar…almost like we'd seen this episode before. And then my BROTHER appeared on the screen. In India.  In INDIA!

Are you kidding me??

About five years ago, my brother submitted a video to AFV, and was selected to appear on the show as one of the finalists. The video he submitted shows him filling an enormous (decorative) bowl with an entire box of cereal and two gallons of milk - then, just as he is about to take his first bite, he (unintentionally) knocked the entire thing over, cascading milk on the rug beneath the table.  It's hilarious.  He took his sister-in-law, Kristin, to the show with him because his then-girlfriend/now-wife was unable to come, and Kristin was the one who caught the incident on tape. He ended up winning second place and nice chunk of change. And now he can say he's been seen all over the world. This show has been on the air for over 20 years – what are the odds that this particular (five-year-old) episode would be showing in India while we're here and while we happen to be watching?? Crazy!
