UBibi and Babu had not been to Kansas since July - so they were due for a visit. They flew out for a long weekend in early November. And they actually got to enjoy some time with Brandon for once. He had the whole weekend off! Well, he had to work Friday night, but it was slow night, so he actually got about 6 hours of sleep and did not have to sleep when he got home on Saturday morning.
Bibi brought lots of "projects" for the kids. One of them was a bag full of random pieces of foam. She got them from a warehouse that collects random cut-outs from different manufacturing industries - stuff that would just be thrown away - and sells it by the bag-full. She said they often use it at her schools. Many of them had sticky sides, and the peeling was good fine-motor practice. Jonah made a rocket ship, Babu made a puppet, and Cora enjoyed sticking as many pieces as possible to a piece of paper :)
She also had something called Moon Sand. Which was kind of like play dough, but more crumbly. And very full of glitter. It was relegated to an outdoor activity, but the kids loved it and played with it many times throughout the weekend. Thankfully the weather was nice enough to get to spend lots of time outside.
Moon sand was messy, but the cleanup was pretty quick.
She had more things for the kids to do, but Brandon and I actually took full advantage of our extra helpers and got to get out several times over the weekend, so we missed out on some of them. The kids had a great time, though. I got to go visit Brandon at the hospital Friday night - which I almost never get to do, because I'm usually home with the kids. So that was fun. On Saturday evening, we went to church kid-free, which was nice because our church doesn't have childcare during the first part of the service, which can make it difficult to focus sometimes.
On Sunday, we had brunch at the Doo-Dah Diner. We're trying to find something to replace our Iowa River Power Company Sunday brunch tradition that we had when Bibi and Babu visited us in Iowa City. I thought it was pretty good - they have lots of yummy, unique offerings for brunch - but Brandon didn't think it was quite up to IRPC's Sunday brunch offering. I guess we'll have to try another place next time they visit ;)

In the afternoon, we were able to attend a "gender reveal" party for one of Brandon's fellow residents (who also happens to be my doctor for this pregnancy!) during the kids' naps. She'll be having a girl of her own in April. And then that evening, we attended House Church - again, without kids - and were able to engage more than we normally are able.
It was a nice break to have Brandon around all weekend, to get to do some extra things without the kids (we love them! But it's sometimes stressful to try and engage socially with them around), and to see Bibi and Babu again after a long break (maybe the longest time we have gone between visits since Jonah was born??).
They hopped back on a plane on Monday morning, and we said goodbye, until the next visit. We always appreciate the effort they make to come all the way out to Kansas to see us!
