Here's a bit about our sweet Cora at 8 months old...
Cora continues to be a happy, inquisitive, excitable baby. She loves to clap her hands or bang together two toys, and she's always interested in knowing what others around her are up to. She is ticklish and friendly and mostly content. Her main mode of locomotion is still army crawling - often carrying a ball or block in each hand - but she is starting to push herself up onto her hands and knees more often. She loves to lounge. She is definitely starting to show a strong-willed, stubborn side, and is not easily deterred when she sets her mind on something. Nothing gets her going like a game of peek-a-boo, especially with Daddy.
Cora has figured out how to crawl up the one step in our ranch home. Although, most often she gets as far as getting her belly up onto the step, and then just hangs out there. Unless, of course, there is something very enticing up in the living room. Then she can navigate herself up the step in no time at all.
We are finally getting her skin issues under control - frequent bathing, lots of lotion on her dry legs, slather the insides of her elbows with Aquafor many times a day. This seems to be helping.
Cora is a bit of a picky eater, but her appetite is proving to rival her brother's - when it's something she likes. She can take down an entire avocado or peach in one sitting. She visibly shakes at the sight of watermelon; mouth open, eyes wide as saucers, hands ready to receive. I think mostly she just wants to be eating what we are eating.
She is sleeping great at night, but we're still trying to figure out naps. We are starting to fall into a bit more of a rhythm - most days we can squeeze out two naps, each longer than an hour, followed by a catnap in the afternoon/early evening.
One of Cora's favorite places these days is the kitchen. Maybe it's because it's easier to slide around on the linoleum? The other day, she discovered her reflection in the side of the trashcan, and it reminded me of one of me favorite pictures from Jonah's first year.
Although, I'm sure Jonah's experience was more sanitary. Poor second child, blech! Cora now makes a beeline for the trashcan when she's in the kitchen - and immediately starts licking her reflection - eww!
No new teeth this month. Although, if she continues to follow Jonah's pattern for development, she's due for four more teeth in about a month.
There was a bit of a role-reversal in Jonah and Cora's interactions this month. Jonah has taken a keen interest in Cora and often tries to engage her and play with her. This often means getting right in her face or laying directly on top of her. Cora mostly swats at his too-close face and tries to get around him. She is more interested in checking out her environment. Although, she still looks for him eagerly every time we come down into the play room in the morning or after naps.
