Playgroup and other random things

Our resident wives playgroup has been planning some really fun outings lately. A few weeks ago we went to the train museum. Then one of the moms scheduled a "menu tasting tour" at Noodles & Company - which basically meant we showed up and took over the entire restaurant (12 adults and 20 kids, age newborn to 4), ate a bunch of yummy food (for free!), and totally trashed the place (....20 kids 4 and under). The manager on duty had no idea we were coming (miscommunication somewhere), but he took it really well and was super accommodating. It was a great morning.

Most recently, we took a trip to the fire station.  The kids had a blast. We got to watch a little fire safety video, tour the bunk room, touch some tools, sit in the truck, and watch one of the fireman put on his gear. The kids got a little nervous seeing the fireman up close with all the bulky gear on. At one point, Jonah looked back at me, on the verge of tears. He even came back to stand next to me because he was scared. But once the fireman had all his gear on, he invited the kids to come give him a high five or a hug. Without hesitation, Jonah made his way up to the front and was the first to give the fireman a high five! He ran back to me and declared, "I was so brave!"

There was also a police car for the kids to check out. The police woman let the kids climb right into the front and mess with all the buttons, even pushing the super-loud siren/horn.  It was a fun morning out with friends. It was such a beautiful day, after the tour, we headed over to the park next door to keep playing with our friends.

I was super impressed with Jonah - he's not usually an adventurous one, but he climbed the entire length of this wavy monkey-bar thing, all by himself - up and down, and up and down.

The kids love to greet Brandon when he gets home from work. If we happen to be outside, they meet him at the car and insist on climbing inside with him to "drive" the car.

After a week of night float, Brandon usually takes another week to recover and switch back to a more regular sleep schedule. This usually means he crashes on the floor after dinner. Cora sees this as a perfect opportunity to get some cuddling in. She will snuggle up next to him and say, "Nigh, nigh. Nigh, nigh."

Action Shot!

Someone in our neighborhood has some cottonwood trees, and last weekend they were shedding pollen like crazy. At one point, it looked like it was snowing, it was coming down so thick. We now have little cottonwood pollen all over the yard. This stuff is a pain - it's so light and fluffy, it's impossible to get rid of. If you try to sweep it, it just flies all over the place...and then lands right back where it was before. We have a had a bit of rain, and that helps a ton.

All the white is cottonwood pollen.

It really accumulates on the porch

Covered in pollen!
